The interior designer is one member of the design team. Also, an architect is needed as well in addition to the equipment specialist. The architect delivers the functionality of the office ( 3 dimensional design that increases productivity and decreases stress)…think bones and muscle of the office) and the interior designer creates the beauty of the office…think skin of the office. The equipment specialist delivers the equipment drawings demonstrating exact location of all equipment.
Of course. Everyone would like to work in a nice office. The environment contributes to employee retention which is key to obtaining patient trust.
That is like asking the cost of a car. There is a big range from a mini Fiat to a Bentley SUV. And the size of the office is a big factor. However, there is a universal truth: dental offices are expensive because of all of the required infrastructure. Plumbing, electrical, and technology expense will almost universally represent over 50% of the total office construction cost.
Create an office environment that is consistent and congruent with the level of care you are proposing to your patients. If you are delivering a Kia Soul level of care, your office should be that Kia Soul. If you are delivering a Mercedes Benz level of care, your office should be that Mercedes S550.
Purposeful and intentional lighting that draws the patient’s eye to exactly what you want them to notice.
Choose an architect who has designed dental offices…lots of them. There is a science to designing a highly functional office that moves like a Swiss watch. And there are specialists in architecture just as there are in dentistry.
That is a big question that has a multifaceted answer. Read my chapter on Property and Lease space guidelines in my Design Bundle Course, “Designing the Elegant Dental or Medical Office” Book, or watch my video on the subject. Short answer: You can move up to 7 miles from your current location and not lose patients.
It doesn’t. The architectural design ensures safety. The architect is required to stamp the drawings certifying that the design complies with all local and national safety code.
I will rephrase the question: How important is a good floor plan? The floor plan is key to creating a functional office. I dedicated an entire book to the subject: Giving Form to Your Future. 100 Award Winning Dental Office Floor Plans
Longer than you think! Today, obtaining a building permit can take months. Also, securing building materials can take longer than expected. Plan on one year to complete a lease space and 1.5 years to complete a freestanding building.
If you’re in a suburban or rural environment, you can move your office location up to 7 miles without losing patients. Dense urban environments are more restrictive with only a 2 to 3-mile relocation radius. Start-up practices should locate near grocery stores, pediatric practices, or OB/GYN practices… in other words, anywhere women congregate. They are the primary healthcare deciders.
