Repetitive movement is the number one cause of musculoskeletal injuries and dental personnel are the poster children of repetitive movement injuries. The average clinical dental assistant will travel from operatories to sterilization 80 to 100 times a day! The average number of times a doctor adjusts the operatory light/s is 125 times/day! And this is just the beginning of a long list of repetitive movements that negatively affect the doctor and dental team. So the relationship of spaces (one to another), the appropriate sizing of rooms, and the positioning of cabinetry, equipment, and dental personnel becomes critical in minimizing repetitive movement.
