Patients judge the quality of the practice by the items they can evaluate and assess in the office.  Furniture is a prime example of this reality.  Worn. frayed, or outdated furniture is a visual indication to the patient that the practice may not pay attention to detail or that outdated techniques and care are being employed by the doctor and staff.
